Comments:

Very high levels of QRN to the east and southeast which covers most of the USA
from Utah.  Almost like summer time conditions from Chile.  We were testing out
a new 1000' NE beverage placed as far away from the CQ antenna as possible and
it worked great.  Most of the time we heard no qrm from the cq machine while
using that beverage so it will be great for EU mults during the CQ160 contest.
We also made a test using the new K3S as the CQ transmitter compared to the K3
we used to use to see if it really has less transmitted interference. It really
does better within about 10 to 15 KHz but was a bit worse farther away than
that. But the benefit close in out weighed the degradation farther away so we
used the K3S as the CQ machine during the contest. RX overload was not the
problem since the level of the cq transmitter on frequency with the second
receiver was not pinning the S meter, only about 20 to 40 over. There is,
however, a slight key clik on break coming from both the K3S and K3 which was
just barely noticeable with band conditions but seemed a bit better on the K3S
transmitter. I wonder if this is software adjustable?
 In all, we had fun and I still think the Stew Perry contest is the best one of
the year. Thanks to the K7RAT group for putting it on every year. I wish more
contests would be distance driven.
