Leading up to this contest it seemed that all the planets were going to align
for me. Great propagation to Europe on Thursday night and no work or family
plans to get in the way during the contest. But the propagation gods, the
weather man and murphy had a different plan. Friday night only 3 ten pointers
PJ2, CT and EA8. When it started to snow just after midnight I noticed my SWR
started climbing to the point where I had to QRT. At day break I saw what the
problem was. The center of the lower wire had sagged enough from the wet heavy
snow that it was now touching the ground under about 2 inches of snow. Luckily
it stopped snowing before sunset and I was back in business. The band sounded
better and I was starting to work some EU when my son came in and said a pipe
was leaking in the basement. Almost 2 hours off to make a temporary fix and
clean up the small mess. Luckily it was only a pinhole and it was caught early.
Back to radio and I am having fun running Europe and west coast with this
antenna that is up about 55' with only a 50' vertical section and a lower wire
5' off the ground. Ended up with 63 ten pointers and missed at least 6 mults
that I heard but didn't work quick enough.

Maybe the planets will align for the next one:}
