First time doing a contest from VE3. Being another 600 miles west of W1 sure
changes things! Middle of the days were miserable- could not get a run going
on any of the high bands between 9am and 3pm. 20m would be okay each morning-
no 100+ hours but a steady 60+- and then 15m would get good starting about 3pm,
then on to 20M a few hours later, then on to 40M. First 6 hours of the contest
had the highest rate of the contest, with the exception of the 0300Z hour on
Sunday. It was just a slow grind.
Lots of good DX on, but much of it couldn't hear me. S8 stations from BA were
plentiful, but only a few could hear me- they would just keep CQing in my face.
It must be hard to be in an urban environment where you can't hear S2 signals!
Overall, I was satisfied with the effort but feel I could have done better.
I'll have to review the logs and see if they offer any insight. Congrats to
Yuri VE3DZ, who I think trounced me in the VE3 LP category.
Many thanks to Rudy N2WQ/VE3 for the use of his great station. LP is
definitely harder than HP just from the effort of keeping the butt in the
chair!
