Comments:

Pathetic!  MAJOR problems somewhere...feedline, antenna, connector...somewhere. 
SWR was swinging all over the place.  Radio wouldn't load at all on 40, and 80
SWR was so high that it made what little RF I mustered ineffective.  I've had
erratic problems for several days, but I thought I had it fixed this afternoon.
NOT SO!

I think I'll tear everything apart and start over.
