This contest reminds me a little bit of Christmas when I
was a boy. In the weeks leading up to the contest, I would
scour the Sears Christmas catalog looking at all the really
neat toys, knowing that I wouldn't get any of them. Still,
it was fun to look. On the big day, after getting the usual
gifts of underwear and socks, there would always be one
surprise. Not from the Sears catalog, but something
memorable.

We have been living on borrowed time with respect to ten
meters for several years. Even the recent WW SSB contest
was a low powered operator's delight. This year was
definitely down on ten meters, with less than a dozen
QSOs resulting from my CQing, all on Saturday. Still,
at the end of the contest I found myself with more than
a fistful of multipliers on the band.

Activity seemed to take a big dip here on Sunday afternoon.
I thought maybe there was a big NFL game on tv, but then
remembered this was a world-wide contest, so that wasn't
the reason. But, the fifteen definitely definitely seemed
less crowded after 1700z while twenty had spots where a
low-powered station could CQ in the normally-recognized
CW part of the band - not in the digital or phone parts!
