Comments:
This was the last of my single-radio entries as I plan to return to SO2R
operation in future contests.
There were many great hours this weekend, even with the near-demise of 10
meters. But my favorite started at 0510z the second night. I had just moved to
160, which at that point only had about 30 QSOs, and worked a couple of
stations as I quickly tuned from the bottom of the band. I found a clear spot
on 1817.4 and called CQ -- starting a run of 94 DX stations that didn't end
till 0611z. Almost all were Europeans, most with weak signals barely above the
noise, and with two strong KH6 stations breaking through off the back of my
950-foot European Beverage.
The new 40-meter stack of Hy-Gain 3-element beams played well, with this the
highest-QSO band.
The new 5-element 10-meter yagi at 48 feet gave life to an often lifeless band
this weekend -- always better than a similar yagi at 100 feet.
Technically, I did not "leave the chair" for 48 hours except for a
few brief breaks for nature (mine and the dog's). But N1MM log stats show a
52-minute gap starting just before 08z the second night, when I apparently
dozed into the keyboard.
Now a few days to rest before the ARRL 160-meter contest!
