Comments:

A slightly disappointing CQP, as it generally seemed harder to grub for
contacts, and score is down by about 12% from last year. The change in condx
was evident in several ways, including very little 10 (last year about 600 Qs),
not much DX (52 Qs versus 224 last year), and very good 160 propagation,
including to the East Coast (not a big contributor to score, but interesting to
note that my only 6-bander was N8UM in TN).
Highlights: (1) The usual excellent and gracious hospitality by Ken (K6TA)
and Kay (K6KO) at their lovely QTH in Amador County. They couldn't have made
things easier for me, and all inadequacies of operation were due to either
conditions or operator failings. (2) Outstanding participation from some
quarters, e.g, 87 VE3 contacts. (3) Excellent propagation on 40; it was fun to
work the East Coast more than an hour before sunset.
Lowlights: (1) Never heard a whisper from NT. (2) Various minor equipment
and software glitches that cropped up and had to be dealt with, causing minor
time lost, though the basic antennas, radios and amps worked fine (after
pounding on the SixPak box, that is, to shake up one of the relays). (3) Some
S5 noise on the high bands for most of Sunday that wiped out a layer of phone
signals, though didn't affect CW much. The K3 NB helped, but not completely.
But, hey, it's still the CQP -- it's always a pleasure to talk to radio
friends in this great QSO Party.
