Comments:

Living in the Palmetto state (SC) was not the place to be for the 2016 GAQP! I
had set a high goal for this one and it wasn't to be due to very difficult
propagation to my next door neighbors. I began on QRP and I made 4 very tough
Qs and quickly decided that there was no 'pipeline' on 40m this year. According
to my stats, I had only 2 band changes during my 6.5 hours. I heard tons of
stations working GA on 20m but didn't hear any GA stations. On 40m, I usually
can hear GA very well, but not this weekend. 40m was longer than usual and I
could work KN4Y easily in the bottom of the state, but other mobiles were
extremely weak here. I didn't hear W0BH until around 2000z and my first contact
with W4AN until the 5.5 hour mark. On 40m I heard FL, VA, KY and the northeast
working GA, but GA stations were actually about RS 33 here all weekend. Sunday
was filled with other activities than contesting, so only a part-time effort
for me this year. Thanks for all the mobile stations who heard my calls like
KN4y, AD4ES, N4N, W4AN, W3DYA and N4I. I'll have to say, that W0BH had some
amazing 'ears'. Bob or Paul were responding before I sent my entire call... the
WN4 helped once again. I love some of the county names in this game... I had to
stop and head for the kitchen after working Ed in Bacon and Coffee counties. I
finished the QP by working my contesting "mentor" W4AN (K4BAI John)
from Hart county on ground wave... I hope to be back next year in the hunt for
some Georgia pine! 73s Dave WN4AFP
