Comments:

160 is so fickle (the polite term) this far north and so far from anything like
salt water, that it requires a lot of faith in the solar predictions (if they
are promising) to even consider doing this contest with any degree of
seriousness. The timing worked out so Joel VE6WQ was able to make it out to
operate. Overall, conditions were the low side of average. One Europe, many
JA, usual Carrib/SAm not much else. The first evening took forever to get
started with virtually nothing audible several hours past sunset. Fist Q in
the log at 0031 but anything resembling a run didn't happen until past 0230.
Ran out of stations by 0830 and then back up at 1200 for what was a decent run
of JA and one UA0 until sunrise. The second day showed more promise with the
band looking nicely open well before sunset but nothing new or if they were,
they didn't hear us. Again first Q in the log at 0031 but signals stayed
depressed and really took a long time to get into the east coast areas. The
morning opening wasn't - just a few new early risers in the log before packing
it in a bit before sunrise. No trace of even the bigger JA stations this
morning. All states came easily this time, with Wyoming being the last in the
log. Both evenings, the 4V1TL signal was well above other Caribbean stations,
some of which we never heard a trace of.

Antenna was a full size 4 square with lots of radials. Several beverage
antennas for rx but they rarely provided any benefit over the TX 4 sq.

Thanks for the contacts, hopefully conditions will allow decent conditions for
the SSB weekend, so see you then...
