Conditions being less than optimal lead me to switch from SO to SOA about six
hours into the contest. The sudden onset of a terrible head cold just prior to
the start of the event further influenced this decision.

Turned out to be a good move from a fun prospective given the disastrous impact
of the solar flare later Saturday morning and afternoon local time. The high
bands running just 100w were very difficult indeed between 1200 and 1800 UTC.

Ten meters seemed open but it was mostly spotlight propagation to AF, EU and
USA but never supported rate....many unanswered CQs.

Concentrated on 40m the first night since it seemed relatively quiet and not
knowing if the QRN level would increase during the second night with several
tropical depressions circulating in the region. 80m seemed good early Saturday
night for a short time.

Ran 75% of the time, S&P the remainder, not a particularly good combo for
maximum score but this technique kept calls going into the log during
especially slow periods.

Perhaps I'll return to P40W for the IARU next month. TNX to everyone for the
QSOs.

73,

John
