Comments:
Things were going well until the effects of the CME hit on Sunday afternoon. At
1900Z, propagation to Europe on 21 and 28 MHz disappeared, and it was a grind
until the end, with no Asia at all on Sunday afternoon on those bands. This is
what makes contesting so interesting, as we continue to learn how to exploit the
various band conditions during both normal and disturbed periods.
We didn't think we'd log Kurt VP9/W6PH on 15 meters, having listened for him
all weekend without hearing a whisper. But the enhancement caused by the solar
storm found him with an immense signal at 22Z Sunday, with an incredible pileup
of East Coast stations in a feeding frenzy! Great stuff!
The all-FRC team of 12 operators had a super time operating the contest, and we
were fortunate that two were able to return from overseas business trips in time
to join us.
Kudos to K3LR and W3LPL, who continue to raise the bar. Their great scores
motivate us as our team works to improve, along with the ongoing hardware
upgrades. It's a great race, and we really enjoy it.
