Comments:

My score is less than half of last year, although the gear, antennas, and BIC
time are the same.

I wasn't sure I'd enter this weekend - I spent several late nights
trouble-shooting rotator/controller weirdness in the days leading up to the
contest. 'Thought I'd finally fixed things a few hours before the starting
bell, but not so. I had to make several runs out to the tower to manually get
the prop pitch motor started (spinning the small gear drive shaft). I finally
left the housing off the drive motor to speed later sprints from the operating
chair.

I think I'd enjoy station maintenance were it not for the demands of having a
day job, which makes trouble-shooting an evening chore. (A 90 minute
round-trip commute to the station makes it a *late* evening chore.)
Maintenance comes at a cost in sleep. So I was pretty worn out at the start,
which led to a violation of the west coast prime directive - "Thou shall
work 6 point JAs on 40m through the night, for thy day may be barren of 3 point
Europeans." (I worked just five JAs on the first night " choosing
to sleep instead.)

Fortunately, there were some 3 point Europeans this weekend, even on 15m
" which may not be the case in a year or two.

The local noise source that developed for the WPX SSB contest persists, but
kept itself to a manageable sizzle thru the weekend. The RFI guru for the
electric utility has been out and confirmed there's a bad insulator on a nearby
power pole, but the follow-up repair crew hasn't yet visited to fix.

Despite the challenges, a fine way to spend the weekend.

73,

/Bill, K2PO
(with thanks to the real AD7JP for use of the call)
