Comments:
That's it. The major contest season for 2016 is finished. What a great end
with the biggest CW event of the contest calendar!
Started out with station failures right away. RX was intermittent, then SWR
went high on 15 meters on second radio, exactly while rate was good to JA on
20. Ran with one radio for about an hour, then figured out that the second
radio had high SWR everywhere. That pointed a finger at my Six Pack switch,
which required a few good whacks (known solution). Problem gone, but had a
grand total of 2 QSOs on 15 the first night.
Low bands better than expected, based on tuning during the week. Worked some
EU on 40 and 80 early in the opening the first night -- little did I know that
this would be the end of short path 40m to EU. 40 meters eventually went very
quiet except for Carribean/SA. Took a short nap and came back to discover 80m
very good to JA (it would be all weekend).
Thank goodness for JA activity in this contest. The number of EU worked was
very, very low. Only snagged rare multipliers like G and DL on 40 after
sunrise. Not exactly long path -- some kind of short path opening.
We seem to have gone back to the era where no one sends their call signs. Does
everyone out there think that they are operating from Heard Island or something?
You've got roughly 100 guys running rate on any given band, and maybe 90
percent are just saying "TU" until the pile goes down to maybe one
caller. So at any given time there are maybe one or two thousand hams sitting
there waiting for the dopes to send their calls. Do you have any idea of how
much time is being wasted? Seriously.
The double mult is what makes WW special. Sure is nice to get them at the end
of the contest!
Thanks for all the Q's.
