Comments:
We think this is first contest in which WD5R
tried the advantages offered by 'ASSISTED' category.
The DXSummit page was available during entire contest.
Not one point was gained by having that page up.
The one time that might have offered an advantage was
when a KL7 station was spotted. However, that would
have required that Marlene be capable of attempting
to work the KL7 without giving up the run freq.
On this band She considers the run freq more important,
especially since it would be reasonable to think
a KL7 would find WD5R. (turns out that was unreasonable)
(Side note to that)
After the contest wd5r received an email
from a KL7 asking how much power we were running
and adding that we had a good signal there.
Our answer, like always, we use a Tokyo HI-PWR,
capable of 2.5k. Because we are old, because we
couldn't afford repair expenses, we treat the
amp like Marlene treats the Kats and Dawgs.
She never puts them in a stressed situation.
During contests our pwr out bounces around
1200 watts. We feel pushing it up to
full limit would not improve our score and
it might shorten life of the amp.
In the end the 'assisted' category added
absolutely nothing to WD5R's score.
Dedicated 1/4 wave vert, pasture full of wire.
Oh! Did I fail to mention? Marlene said She had
a little noise first night!
