Comments:

Getting on the IARU HF Championship forced me to finish reassembling
my station after field day. It also was an opportunity to test the
integration of the new tower-born beam and to compare the performance
of the 100-foot high X7 with the 60-foot high X7. The 100-foot
antenna is about 300 feet southeast of the 60-foot antenna.

So far, the 2 antennas seem to perform nearly identically. Perhaps
confirmation bias makes me suggest that the higher beam may provide
half a db better signal to noise ratio for very weak Asian signals.
More significantly, the 2 antennas seem to hear different local
noises, a phenomenon that needs more investigation.

I didn't plan to spend a lot of time operating and I didn't get on
until the middle of the afternoon so I missed 15 meters. Later I took
a few hours off to keep up with the mowing.

I tried the point and pounce method of working people to place an
emphasis on multipliers, but I found that I could find new stuff to
work just about as fast by tuning as by clicking. Perhaps there are
fewer casual contesters on in the summertime to provide spots.

I tried several times to work E2HQ, but the best result was K1? After
that he faded a bit and could not hear me any more. I was running low
power. I couldn't hear several other far away HQ stations like DX0HQ
and YE0HQ.

The other observation about low power is that I could work just about
everyone I could hear, but I usually had to wait longer for the
popular stations. It seemed like I could work weaker signals easier
than the strong ones, but maybe there is some bias towards expecting
strong signals to be easy.

Equipment: K3 and P3; Cushcraft X7 up 100 feet, Cushcraft X7 up 60
feet, full sized 40 meter vertical at ground level, full sized 80
meter vertical at ground level, 65-foot 160 meter "tee" vertical.
Beverages for receive on the low bands (didn't fire up the phased
arrays).
