Comments:
Had no idea there was a NNY station on -- I certainly looked for one. A lot.
Had to really sweat out VE6. Low power or QRP VE6's don't propagate very well
on the high bands on Sunday across the border here. Lucked out and had one
answer a CQ on 40 meters Sunday night.
Other rare ones very well represented. A nice collection of VO1's on this
year. VE4's and VE5's were also quite plentiful.
Went into this contest with a bit more enthusiasm. I put one extra stub on my
40 meter antenna and it almost completely cured the 40/20 interaction that has
been haunting me off and on for the last year. Actually thought of it (in
desperation) 30 minutes before the contest start!
Good to have 15 meters open solid. All of the bands were in good shape, but
snow static and general QRN made copying QRP stations quite a challenge on
Sunday night. I think the skill of requesting and complying with a fill is
lost on people nowadays. At best the sending station sends the entire exchange
again (only to be wiped out by the predictable QRN/QSB). At worst he/she gives
you the "deer in the headlights" response. The PREC is the worst.
"A" and "U" are only one dit apart. If I blow it, its a
bust. So I need the repeat -- but I've tried (over the decades!) every way of
trying to ask for it, with only 25 percent "getting it."
Thanks for all the folks who get on regularly and make this such a pleasant
ritual. I am even starting to enjoy Sundays! (Better call the ambulance!).
