Wow, what a ride.
I am so very thankful to Kam, N3KS, for building, continually upgrading, and
maintaining his station in Bijagua, CR. Getting the chance to operate SOAB
last year was something dreams are made of. To be able to do it again with
even bigger hardware was just incredible!
The goal has always been 10,000 Q's. Sunday was pretty poor and I didn't think
it was going to happen. I would say 11,000 or even 12,000(!) is possible as a
single op with the right conditions from the right place. 10,434 QSO's
including dupes. Sunday was dupe central, what a mess!
Congratulations to ZF2MJ and CR3OO on the outstanding scores. We missed the
V47T and 8P5A single ops, but it was great to hear V47T QRV again as a M/2.
Competition is what we live for in this game!
The bands were definitely down overall compared to last year. The highlights
were probably 80 and 160m to EU. 634 EU QSO's on 80m to EU... that is a long
haul from zone 7!
EU and NA numbers were up, but the Asia totals were down. The JA signals were
definitely not commanding like they have been in the past. Most of Sunday was
like running a VHF contest to NA on 15. The 10m openings were very high rate
for a very short amount of time.
