Happy to actualy worked this contest. After comming to the contest stations i
noticed a lightning hit the station. 2nd radio, the main PA, all banddecoders,
our switching system were all gone. Nothing was working and there was no way to
fix anything before the contest.
So after the first shock it took me 2h to manage an old school setup with 1
radio, an old mfj hand switch to change bands on the top of the other room (for
which i needed a ladder to climb to change bands) and hand switch the connector
for driving stackmatches. So, the bandchange consiste of:
1. Change the radio to the band,
2. hand change the linear to the band
3. go to the other room, climb the ladder, change bands
4. climb on a chair and change the stackmatch control
5. turn on the PA from standby
6. start TXing...
Every path took me around 30s - 1 minute to finish :) But hey, at least all this
kind of climbing will surely make my legs look great HI. So this year i let lots
of nice any easy multipliers fly by, but it was impossible to ask guys to stand
by and try to work me on the other band in 1 minute. I lost a lot to the other
guys, being limited to the old school 1 radio ts590sg with 1 vfo and 1 PA.
So i finished the fixes on 11.59 when i sat behind the station for the first
time, sweating like it was raining and we started... Thx to Jane s57l for the
support and for the backup PA. The JUMA worked nicely, but i did all the contest
with 700W output instead of 1.5kW. Sure took a lot from me especialy when TXing
to 2 sides and on the lower bands.
After the contest is finished, i can say conditions were very nice for the first
4h of the contest, then there was a blackout for some time and then they took
off again. a nice oppening to G land at 22.00 local or 20. utc...just too few of
the G guys took advantage of it.
160 and 80 were very very very noisy and every qso was a fight. Thanks for the
guys who happily repeated and repeated the calls, you know who you are! Very few
stations on 160m tough...pitty they were all nice mults for us.
So this year i did my 100% with the possibilities i had..pitty, it would've been
a realy close race with rw1f, s55t (s57al) and s53m. What LY7Z and LY4A did is
on another planet for us southern EU. This contest conditions seems to be very
favorable for their geo positions. WOW!
Taking all into account i am realy happy with myself, i could've just closed the
club doors and went home, instead persisted till the end and meed a lot of good
old friends as every year.
Thanks to all, you guys and gal's are great! Next year we do it again :)
A nice 73 to all!
Bostjan - Ian S55O
