Comments:

It has always amazed me that the scoring system in this ARRL contest so
blatantly gives an advantage to the Northeast coastal stations. 5 points
for every EU Q, and lots of multipliers very few will ever work. Maybe the
rest of the ARRL dues paying members that would like to actually compete
would have a better chance if the scoring was like the RTTY RU, 1 point
per Q x the mults. For me it has always been more of an "activity
night"
than a contest - get on and make 500 or so Q's then go back to watching TV.
I've been doing the ARRL 160M since it started.

So, when my mountain top station got 8" of slushy snow on Friday, I didn't
want to drive 90 minutes each way just to "participate". Ray, W2RE and
the
guys at RemoteHamRadio set me up with the ULTIMATE GEOGRAPHICAL advantage!

The W1/Eastport 160M 4 square is just a few hundred feet from saltwater,
and the closest station to EU in the continental USA. The results speak for
themselves. 313 five pointers, all easy. The highlight was certainly UA9BA
breaking through the EU pile up the first night.

Thanks Ray and RHR! It was a good time!

73, Bill KO7SS in Tucson, AZ
