Comments:
The last few years I have been doing this one as single-op. At CQ WW SSB, Paul
had told me that he would be able to do a multi-op with me due to him getting
back home earlier from a play he and Mary attended every year back in MN. As we
know those plans were not to be.
I started the contest using my call (K0TG). Paul, W0UC had the application in to
get W0AIH assigned to the new club for the farm (Fall Creek Contest Club). We
saw that W0AIH would be issued on 12/1. Unfortunately the contest started
11/30. So contacts made with my call will be entered as a checklog.
I operated as K0TG from just before 0000Z to 0624Z when W0AIH was listed in the
FCC ULS. Both W0UC and W0DC were watching the ULS site. W0DC reported that the
club call KE0TNZ was deleted. It maybe took 5 more minutes for W0AIH to show up
again. I got the word we were good to go and at 0624Z, W0UC was first in the
log. There was a very good pileup going at that hour
It was really fun to get W0AIH back on the air. I know a lot were happy to see
it back based on the response. There were a lot of RIP Paul comments, and just
dit dit. K7SS sent FB several times. That all meant a lot. The minister at
Paul's service said that grief comes in waves. I was certainly having some of
that. But so happy to have W0AIH back on the air and on his favorite band too.
Missing the first 8-1/2 hours of the contest with this call meant a late start.
I think things went very well considering that. The first night was really
rough with the noise from a pretty active storm down south near AR. t never
went below S9 and peaked at 10 over. Thru that I was surprised to work some DX.
I wondered how loud they would be if it were not for that noise. I know a lot
of DX was missed due to that. The second night was not much better with a
active storm just in southern WI heading to the Chicago area. At least that one
was not a constant S9 like the night before. Pretty fatiguing operating that
way for two nights.
I was really glad I decided to bring out the Flex 6600M. I got that radio
earlier this year and the filters and the bandmap make it a dream to operate on
such a crowded band.
The JA's were there in good form I worked the first one at 1026Z and then 9 more
up to my sunrise.

Many thinks to all worked this weekend. Thanks for welcoming W0AIH back and for
the first run of the Fall Creek Contest Club.
Thanks to Paul of course for building this fabulous station. It is great to go
there and lob signals around the world. Thanks to Mary for her hospitality last
weekend too.
