Despite being my poorest score since 2009, that was actually kind of
entertaining because it was different than usual.
JA's were loud on 15 at 2355Z on Friday. Never to be heard loud again. 20 stayed
open to JA until almost 04Z Friday night, which was a welcome surprise. 40 was
intermittently runnable to Europe all weekend. It would be good for 10 minutes,
then gone. 80 was outstanding to JA on Friday night. I don't have a real 80
meter antenna - just a rotatable dipole, yet it was very runnable from JA sunset
to local sunrise. Probably even later, but I was already on 20. The Saturday 20
meter EU opening was so strange - 4 hours of piss weak, fluttery, >=500 watt
Europeans calling. This was absolutely a case of an unassisted guy being
assisted by spots and the RBN. The Zone 9 boys were beacons all weekend on 10
meters, yet the only Zone 8 I heard/worked were KP2M and NP2N, who were both
heard a number of times. It was very strange having a radio on 40 at 23Z, but
what's a Lid suppose to do when 15 is dead ? Nice EU sunrise enhancement on 80
both nights to Zones 14/15 (but not 16). 160 was dead, outside of Zones 7,8,9
and 31. 20 opened with a bang on Sunday morning, then closed 1.5 hours later .
Having a waterfall display for both radios for the first time was interesting.
Certainly saved many minutes compared to the traditional searching technique
when trying to find a hole for a run frequency on 40 and 20. Also interesting to
look at the many merely clicky, and a few absolutely horrible signals.
