TRX: K3/100+KAT500+hb bpf
Tx ant: inv L at 15m downto 11m
Rx-ant: 3 non-terminated beverages (~100-120m)
N1MM Plus logger

15 minutes after the first QSO, my hb remote (relay) Beverage switch died,
leaving me alone with a short NW/SE Beverage and the Tx-ant for receive.
Troubleshooting indicated the problem to be outside the shack walls, so I did
not bother and I decided to pursue even with the handicap.
1 hour later we started to RUN, I quickly opted for S&P.
This proved the better approach given the limited Rx-setup.

The band was very crowded (sigs upto 1885kHz) with loud signals, all around the
place, possibly leading to fake QSO’s.
On several occasions, several stations showed their amazing Rx-capabilities!
The propagation must have been helpful…

First NA in the log at 01:33 the first night was K1KI. By far the loudest were
VY2ZM and the VA2’s.

The Beverage switch issue was solved after the NA-opening, which motivated me
for a major catch-up effort.

YM7KA was called for 20 minutes, as was C6AGU but they never copied beyond ON7.

Exactly 1 hour before the gong, 4J4K was found with a solid signal.
I was happy to find a large amount of UA stations in the log.

Assisted operation has grown mature in 2018!!
While CQ-ing Sunday evening, a weak 3A2MD started calling some 100Hz below my
QRG.
I called her but she took another station. After that QSO, I called her again
and when I released the key, I was surprised by a pile-up worth 3Y0Z…
In just seconds after her first CQ, multiple stations had picked her up and were
already calling her. Simply amazing!

Thanks for all the callers and their persistence for making a complete contest
QSO!
Stations wanting to hear their QSO in my Rx can send an email.

73,

Michel, ON7EH
