Comments:
IC-7610 story, part II (part I, ARRL DX CW not written, yet.
Still is cool-off mode!)
IC-7610 receiver nice and quiet on SSB. Spent 3 hours
last week trying to get speech levels and processing setup.
Not completely happy, not nearly as much punch as the Orion.
So, on the low bands I tended to switch to the Orion, but
tuned through the bands with the 7610.
At 0400z the second night the qrn level jumped 40 dB
on both the 7610 and Orion while on 40m. Also very high
levels of qrn on the lower bands, so called it a night.
Other than that, the qrn seemed ok - was able to work
both KH7XS and KH6J on 160 with no receiving antenna;
KH7XS was quite a bit stronger in the same time window.
Will keep working on the ICOM, since no one but TenTec
would let you send back a rig you were not happy with.
RIP.
