Comments:
WOW, simply wow.
Didn't expect such conditions and didn't expect to keep pushing so hard and
hitting such a result. This contest wasn't initially supposed to happen due to
the fact that I was coming home from a business trip and I am flying to London
tomorrow morning for yet another one. Just wanted to make an appearance but
then, also thanks to the live scoreboard, I kept working QSOs and I made it till
the end with 33 active hours and my best score for this contest.
To be honest I even entered a new -to me- category. Went Low Power since I was
just supposed to give out points and have some fun despite my ridiculous
antennas: an 80m inverted L and a multiband wire dipole. That's why I'm into
"Threebander single element" overlay.
Conditions were cool despite the solar minimum. Did at least a QSO from 10m to
160m thanks to the patience of the great operators out there and the help of the
tuner (160m heh).
Chasing the guy in front of me on cqcontest.net provided the needed motivation
to keep pushing. Live scores are definitely an interesting factor and should be
used more.
As an avid QRPer I can say I'm pretty much used to the boredom and frustration
of calling helplessly some station over and over. Of not being able to run
consistently and so on. Given solar minimum and crappy conditions ahead I
decided (thanks IT9RGY, IZ1YPF...) to step up from QRP to LP. 100W contesting is
definitely different. No, I never owned and won't likely never own an amplifier,
but I'll definitely play around with 100W more often :)
20m were packed. Nice to work WH7AA on sunday morning although it took a while
to pass due to the crazy pileup. 80m were almost unworkable due to the noise and
the local storms.
Hope to be able to improve the antennas for next year. Thanks everyone for the
fun during this weekend!
