Well.... this one was a struggle to say the least!
20m here was good here for the first hour - then dropped like a rock - forget
15! Up here that one may as well have been a VHF band this weekend - HI!
40M went long early which forced me down to 80m - (where NO ONE really hears me
very well from way up here... HI) But it is what it is as they say....
To add to the mix, a massive wind storm hit the Maritimes on Saturday night -
causing me to lose power several times. Fortunately, we have a generator - but
those unplanned offtimes required re-booting of the station and amps when it
happened - which just made things even more unsettling.
Here on PEI we were hit pretty hard - but down in New Brunswick, more than
92,000 residents lost power on Saturday night and were still out on Sunday
morning.
All day long on Sunday, we had gale force winds with 6 foot waves clearly
visible behind the house out on the Gulf of St Lawrence. My yagi elements were
bowed way back more than I have ever seen them in the 90MPH wind gusts coming
from out of the NW.
As for the contest itself, like everyone else - Sunday was PAINFUL at best - and
I have to note a certain amount of skepticism regarding the VI multiplier. I
hope the folks at ARRL HQ check this one carefully to be sure that all the VI
multipliers were accurate. I thought KP3/NP3 stations were located in Puerto
Rico - and some even reported that KP2X(?) was sending PR to some stations that
he worked. Hmmm....that one seems worth checking too....(HI)
NP2J - Dan was reported to be on (W1WEF worked him I think) and that one I do
recognize as correctly situated in the USVI.
Anyway - it was fun to participate - and hearty congratulations to the top
scorers - well done - see you in the next one.
