It was awesome contest for me, in spite of very bad CONDX on high bands in
central Europe. I planned this year as serious effort – but Murphy decided to
make it even more thrilling :-)
The contest started at 0000Z (0100 local time). At 0330 phone ringing - It was
my wife traveling to Portugal for HAMfest in Lisbon. She was already close to
the airport and found she forgot wallet with all personal documents at home...
So I interrupted very efficient S&Ping, sat down to a car and drove 2 and
half hours to the airport - which was the only way how to save a situation :-).
Another non-contest amusement appeared with my small daughter on Saturday
evening - she REALLY NEEDED me to read a tale to sleep. "Daddy it is THE
ONLY THING I need from you during YOUR contest". Cannot resist - but I fell
asleep too... :-) It was another 2+ hours. The rest of my 12-hour off time was
my PLANNED relax.
Before the contest (actually already before OK-OM DX contest which is a
prestigious affair in OK-OM countries) I have prepared new Delta-loop for 80m
(corner feed), which worked really GREAT for DX! With inv. V at 19m (63 ft.) it
is very functional couple. I have also erected 3el tribander fixed to the South.
I have to add another 2 manual antenna switches because the configuration
started to be even more complex and I was still not able to make it
"automated". For the next year I need to improve transmitting antenna
for 160 m - I heard many DX but did not went through to many of them with my
LP.
The only pain during the contest was the TRX MB1 from Expert Electronics. It is
great piece of equipment and the RX is awesome. But the software/firmware... I
own one already for more than 2 years and there are still several big issues for
sophisticated contesting use and some "user un-friendly" features. It
is a big pity that in the development team is not any serious contester...
Thank you all for calling me or answering my call! I made around 60% of QSOs in
S&P...
