Comments:

Huge thanks to Chris G0DWV and Tina for hosting me again for this contest. Big
effort goes in to preparing for this operation and my thanks go to them both.
Really enjoyed the contest. Propagation was, as always, very interesting. It
changed a lot over the weekend and it produced some surprising openings and
interesting QSOs. 10m was very poor but there were some very brief openings,
mainly on the Sunday. Signals went up and down in a matter of seconds. Very
pleased to manage 22 countries with these kind of conditions.
Lots of good runs on the other bands. The operating standard of participants
seems to improve every year in my experience which makes the event even more
pleasant. I fluctuated between operating 2BSIQ, SO2R and SO1R depending on
conditions and also how I felt. Tiredness kicked in on Sunday in the early
afternoon period and it became very difficult to continue but I was determined
to push through it. The 1 and a half hours of sleep on Friday evening before the
contest was not enough really! The Microham 2R+ worked great with audio
splitting between the two rigs.
My congratulations go to outstanding results from many friends around the world:
Team K3LR, Nick G4FAL (operating G3VR) with a super score and providing some
great UK competition, Team M6T for a whopping score and being 'everywhere', TI7W
(Chris, KL9W) and ZF1A (Dan, N6MJ) where their operating standards were simply
world class - I always knew when I'd found one of them based on their operating
style. If an 8 was sent, it was Dan and if a 7 was sent it was Chris! Great
going lads.
Catch you all in 2019 for another year of contesting fun!
Mark M0DXR
