Comments:
The last time I did this contest seriously was over 20 years ago (!) in high
school in the late 1990's with KL7HF (SK, ex K0MZN) as a M/S at his house in
Anchorage.
This was also my first serious HF contest from Montana. It only took 10 years
of living here to do it, but better late than never.
I actually enjoyed the QTC's once I got past hating them. It gave me something
to do anyway. This contest has no business being 48 hours. But if a guy is
going to be on from W7, Montana is a good place to be. I stopped a few hours
before the end, leaving a handful of QSO's on the table. I had to shut down
twice during the contest thanks to some big thunderstorms. I worked very hard
for the 575 that did make it into the log.
Congratulations to everyone that made the 80m QSO. The ears in Europe were very
impressive this weekend, especially on the low bands. Even those ESP 15m QSO's
were quite impressive. Congratulations to those who pulled me out! DL5AXX was
the loudest on 15m at about s7 for a few minutes on Sunday.
Huge thanks to Pat, N9RV, for letting me use his station. What an absolutely
killer station. Large stacked arrays and no noise in beautiful western Montana
is hard to beat. Some sunspots would be welcome, however.
Congratulations to everyone fighting it out for WRTC points. The KD4D/NN3W
battle was fun to follow on the air, listening to their serial numbers. Just
like 48 hours, this contest has no business being a 1000 point WRTC qualifier.
