Comments:

Just got back home this week after a long absence while resolving family issues
that caused me to miss the Sept VHF contest. The 4 el 10M turned out totally
useless with astronomical SWR and only the tribander was working. 10M prop was
mostly Geminids meteor scatter but I stayed with it Friday night and was glad I
did since it produced the only opening to W6/7, short and weak though it was. I
was really happy with the long Ms bursts that allowed QSOs to happen, but really
dismayed at how few seemed to understand them and make the best use of them. I
had to laugh several times when stations would tell me to call back later, as if
it that would change things and the band would actually open on F2! There were
some Es bubbles but no solid openings.

Saturday morning was not any better and probably worse. It was a very slow day
and every QSO was a struggle. It never really did much all day and even the
South American opening in the afternoon was weak and short lived with very few
stations coming through, most of them high power alligators. Saturday was a
long slow day but productive for multipliers. Good thing since I didn’t work
any more mults on Sunday at all.

Sunday was brutal except for one hour when I actually got about 15 minutes of
actual Es to FL. I had my best hour of the contest at 1700Z when I worked 26
whole contacts! Slower than a January VHF contest! The rest of the day was
pretty much a loss with at best a few an hour and an even weaker SA opening.
I’m amazed I never heard IN since there are a lot of stations there.
