Comments:

This was an interesting enough Ten Meter Contest, with at least four different
propagation modes evident: normal tropo, meteor scatter, sporadic-E, and
transequatorial. This was the first Ten Meter contest in quite a while that the
annual Geminids meteor shower (one of the top three for the year) was due to
peak Friday night. I was ready.
The first hour Friday was more-or-less as expected, but after 8PM local, when
the Geminids radiant rose above the horizon, a flood of stations appeared. The
radiant was its highest in the sky around midnight, but I did not stay up that
late. Activity seemed to be slowing down in any case, even as the meteor shower
became more widespread. Meteor scatter was not so prominent Saturday evening,
but still evident.
Mid-day openings both days to LU, CX, PY and CE mostly were welcome, but not
unexpected. HI and VP2V were in briefly as well. Those in the US South and West
seemed to be doing much better in that regard. Also worked CT and EA on Sunday
around noon--1 QSO each. The solar flux was far from high enough for any F-layer
skip, but the European contacts could have been via multi-hop sporadic-E. I did
hear any domestic double-hop Es. In the final tally, worked all states and
provinces within single E-hop distance, save VO1, VY2, and VE4, along with a
handful of DX multipliers.
It was gratifying to hear such good CW activity. My rates hit 60 an hour
briefly during the peak of the meteor shower, with stations running like an HF
contest. Awesome. That did not last long though. At other times, especially much
of the day on Sunday, contacts by any means were sparse.

5-element Yagi at 60 feet, K3 and 1250 Watts.
