Comments:
With this late post much has been said before: the lowbands were great! 160 was
wall to wall with copyable EU's, and 80 was easily runnable from Texas. Along
with 40, there are many bases to cover during the window when lowbands are open
- and tradeoffs to consider. Part of the game. The daytime tradeoffs are no less
important, and clearly I didn't do enough 15.
So I sum up the contest with a single paragraph? What's up with me today?
As the days pass since this wonderful weekend, it's not the good memories that
endure. I submitted my logs 2 days ago. For what I am going to say next, I felt
the need to clear it with Jay and we thought about it for 2 days. So the post is
late.
My Sunday morning EU runs were cut short by DQRM from a known source. I've never
heard anything like this on the bands. At first I found it amusing, but then it
got much louder and I couldn't copy my callers. I sweetly surrendered the
frequency and did mostly pouncing after that, expecting he would follow me
around via RBN spots. 1627z is an early time to quit running EU's. I only have
one "enemy" in this hobby, so the list of suspects is equally short.
DQRM episodes have fortunately been infrequent, but always involve sweeping his
VFO (or XIT) back and forth across my run frequency while playing with his
keyer. This started in the early 80's. The link is the headphone audio clip from
1617z to 1627z, but much of the audio is from the 2nd radio (on 15) and you
don't hear much of my sending because the headphones switch automatically. At
the end I spin the dial. Am not happy about this, or what it portends for future
contests if this behavior doesn't stop immediately.
