Comments:

Has it really been six years since I operated this contest? Back then I had 1543
Qs, 57 S/P and 63 DXCC for a score of 900k.

Conditions to Europe this year were poor on Friday night, with many stations
CQing in my face and no runs of Europeans. It picked up a bit on Saturday night,
with a steady stream of callers but no big runs. Signals never got really
strong. Good thing there was almost zero QRN.

I logged into the live scoreboard on my phone to check on the competition
Saturday afternoon before getting back on. When I first looked, W2GD was way
ahead and uncatchable, while KM3T, W1UE, and AA1K were ahead but I thought I
might be able to catch them.I managed to pull ahead of all of them (KM3T then
snuck past me later). It was kind of fun to compare scores every hour.

Sunday morning after European sunrise, I set a 10-minute rule...as soon as I
went 10 minutes without a QSO, I would go QRT. That was 0930 or so. Took a nap
then got back on at sunrise hoping for some AS/PAC mults, but didn't get any.
Missed SD and AK for WAS.

I still recall the 2009 contest (1903/58/79 for 1.33M), when 145 Europeans went
in the log in one hour, most well over s9, and with the keyer cranked waaaay up.
Nothing like that this year. Sigh.

Thanks to everyone for all the QSOs. A pleasant way to spend a winter weekend.
One radio, one op, no packet, a boy and his radio alone on an island in Maine.

73,

Doug K1DG
