Comments:
Well I intended to put in a full effort but mother nature intervened. Around 10
Pm Saturday night I noticed that 222 QSO's became difficult. The precipitation
that was occurring started to take its toll as the SWR soared on all antennas. I
managed to stay on at reduced power for awhile but then the amps started
tripping and I shut down. At the time I thought it was good because I was
feeling pretty sick and had severe laryngitis. The forecast was to be mid 30's
and rain by 7 AM and over 40 degrees by 9 AM. So I could get some needed rest
and come back in the morning.
Waking up everything had a heavy coating of ice - it was very pretty as the
antennas and trees looked like glass. The forecast was still to get above
freezing but now not until mid-day. Alas, the warm air just to the south of me
never reached my QTH and it stayed below freezing all day. I could hear a good
deal of DX on msk144 on 50.260 and FT8 on 313 was busy all day. But with almost
all power coming back to the shack with very hi SWR I decided a few extra Q's
weren't worth it and never xmitted the entire day. Truth be told I was under the
weather and the rest was probably for the best. So my full time effort became a
very limited Saturday effort where I found the lowest activity I've ever
experienced in a January contest and very poor condx. Hopefully June and Sept
will be (a lot) better!

Jeff
