Comments:

For several years earlier in the decade this was an annual event for me from
Chuck's. Fires, illnesses, etc, broke that chain 3 years ago. So, when Chuck
again graciously offered this one to me, it was like revisiting (good) old
times. We got the keyboards placed in logical positions, thus eliminating the
"wrong KB problem," which had plagued me earlier. And, oh my, does
that station just flat play!
But, the real burning question was: Could I still play 18 holes on that same
Sunday after the contest? I mean, it's a tradition here!

Chuck has a little snake problem up there. He's had 3 recent occurrences with
LARGE bull-snakes--awakening in the AM to be confronted by them...in his master
bedroom!
Doors & windows were secured & (thankfully) no reptiles were observed in
or around the shack. He has a snake-expert coming today. Chuck is referring to
this guy as a "snake-charmer." I'd be telling him to
"charm" them right the hell outta' the house!

Of course, summer contests mean lots of QRN--and, the bands were covered with
the usual din of crashes. There were just a handful of stations I couldn't
pull through it--sorry guys. When someone takes the trouble to call, I
absolutely strive to return the favor & stand on my head to pull him
through. So, to those few folks: It's maddening & frustrating on my end,
too. The seasonal afternoon thunderstorm passed quietly over Chuck's
place...but, it cranked-up just to the east & produced some pretty murderous
crashes from ground-wave range...

Winding down Chuck's lane at 6:30 Sunday AM, I had a mutual-startle with a
buck-deer--big antler rack--on the road. He high-tailed it back up the hillside
into a protective posture...for his FAMILY! Mom & the kids (4 of them) were
all lying there chillin' on the hill. The contrast of that beautiful, placid
scene--just a few feet from 24 hours of electronic frenzy? I stopped &
enjoyed that reverie for a a couple of minutes...what was I doing, again? Oh,
yeah, gotta' drive home (while I'm still able)...

If you'd told me back in the 70's that I'd STILL be doing this in 2019? Get
serious! Even with some age, illness, diminshing skills, the radio-bug is
alive, it remains compelling & still bites hard...

And, yes, I played that 18-hole round on Sunday with no sleep, fulfilling the
tradition. So, maybe I'm not so good any more at either radio or golf? Oh, but
I'm so thankful I can still do both. And, thanking Charley for allowing me to
come up & enjoy the "big chair" again...

73,

Geo
