Comments:
We went into the All Asian knowing that the sun was not going to be cooperating.
We knew that the June AA is mostly a nighttime contest at this time in the
sunspot cycle and summer time..
160: Ken N6RO did his usual hard core job which yielded 5 QSO the first night.
Several others were heard calling but could not pull a call sign out. The second
night Gary, NA6O added one more QSO.
80: Bill, W9KKN took the first night shift and really did a FB job, Considering
that sunset in JA was about 7pm local (3am CA time) and our sunrise was about
545 am….leaving about 3 hrs of useable darkness at this freq. The second night
Gary, NA6O added another 50 QSOs whole also listening on 160. The two ops really
gleaned what was possible.
40: Mike WA6O started on 40 about 0630z and continued until about 14z. He
really cleaned out the band the first night. The second night Matt, WX5S took
over and did his usual vacuum cleaner effort with contacts. At 7 MHZ the band
was open to Asia from about 4 pm to midnight in Japan = about 8 hrs of possible
openings.
20: The first 20 hours were covered by Bob, K3EST. He noted that the band
started off with poor openings to Asia. As usual, it really started to open to
JA about 11 pm local and continued with contacts all 20 hours. David, K6DAJ
took over the second night and continued to increase the Q total after 11pm
local. Daytime on 20 M = very few QSOs.. The second 24 hours started off worse
than the first 24. However, the early morning opening until 6am local was better
than day 1
15: We could not equal last year’s Q total but Bill, W9KKN managed to make
QSOs from the start until early Sat morning. Daytime on Sat was not good with
very few QSOs and the late night/early Sun opening almost was non-existent. Sat
afternoon was partially covered by Chris, N6WM, Bob, K3EST, David, K6DAJ and
later by Gary, NA6O.
10: When 10 is good, it is very, very good and when it is bad it is horrid. The
later applied = 0 QSOs.
Thanks to Ken, N6RO for the use of his fine QTH and his FB chili Sat evening!
Thanks to the ops who helped make the score: N6RO, WA6O, NA6O, W9KKN, WX5S,
K6DAJ, K3EST and N6WM.
Below is a template for the last two AA contests as MM from K3EST @ N6RO
In 2018 the sun cooperated as much it could… The daylight hours on 20 were
better in 2018.
