Comments:
N2QV and I have been spending so much time prepping and improving the station
for the all-band contests that N5DX operates, that we haven't spent much time
using the station ourselves. So we set out to find a contest that we thought we
could manage to complete beginning to end. This was the one.
We wanted to try to operate this one remotely, with us each being at different
locations. I under-estimated how much that paradigm didn't fit with our current
SO2R, remote setup. So at the last minute we conceded to the fact that we'd just
have to set up a schedule and operate one at a time in single-op SO2R mode.
Not being the seasoned veterans, we really didn't know what to expect. I was
hoping for more EU. We didn't get any EU runs, other than a few here and there.
I felt great sadness as I watched the grey-line sweep over EU and no big boost
in signals or EU stations calling, on both nights. Conditions stayed pretty much
exactly the same. Though I did net a TA1 on the grey-line, which along with some
VK/ZL were the best DX for us.
Biggest regret was not getting to know N1MM+ networked mode well enough in
advance. I didn't fully appreciate the difference between
"resynchronize" and "rescore". Or the need to manually do
those things. Let's just say at one point when I finally hit the buttons in the
right order our score dropped by 100k. Yeah, that took the wind right out of
our sails.
Congrats to N2CW and thanks for the Q's
73,
Scott, WU2X
