Comments:

I arrived at the station on Thursday and discovered that the transmit antenna
was non-functional and there was a problem with noise that was 30dB over s9 on
the NE/SW Beverage when listening to the SW. I managed to fix the transmit
antenna quickly but could not find the source of the noise on the Beverage. The
noise went away Friday morning so I could not go looking for it during daylight.
It stayed off all Friday night and made it possible to hear pretty well.

I got off to the slowest start I can recall in a 160 contest. I think there was
just too much QRM from the high level of activity in Europe to hear my signal.
It did not help that a certain DL station started calling CQ on my frequency at
2202. I will remember his call for the future.

Things improved later but signals were not as strong as the magic year of 2009.
I worked two JAs Saturday morning and about 10 more Sunday morning (all called
me).

Missed ND and VE5. Heard ZP9MCE but after I found him, he only worked one more
station and disappeared (it was close to his sunrise).

Saturday night the noise on the Beverage came back and I could not hear anyone
calling me from the SW. Fortunately I also had a NW Beverage that helped on most
signals but I probably missed some QSOs.

I did my best to make the very rare Maine multiplier available to the
Deserving.

Congrats to K3JO operating the Jonesport RHR station, K3ZM operating from the VA
swamps, separated by only 1%. And N5DX who may have been SO, maybe MS, and
probably has an excellent score.

Same time next year, guys.

73,

Doug K1DG

p.s. People sometimes ask what kind of food contesters eat during contests. I
can only speak for myself, but I do not think it is a coincidence that this
contest is 30 hours long and there are exactly 30 cookies in a package of
Double-Stuf Oreos.
