Comments:

I decided Saturday morning to get on in the contest. I have a 5el HyGain that I
keep partially assembled for FD. It doesn't take long to put the elements on
the boom, etc. It took longer to arrange the coax. I came up with a way to
install it on my SpiderBeam mast just above the guy point on a PVC sleeve so it
could rotate. Finished running the coax to the shack at 18:30. Then I had to
get a rig working. I have an FT-450D which wasn't hooked up. Once it was
alight there were lots of signals coming from W9/W0, but I couldn't get it to
transmit! Finally managed to get the keyer to key the FT-450D at 18:45 by which
time the band had closed. Later I found the microphone and worked a few locals
on SSB. Getting FT8 working would have been a bridge too far.

I had ten QSOs the first 15 hours while watching the NE part of the country go
to town via DX Maps. After 6pm Sunday we had much better conditions, though
still marginal, through to the end of the test. Bouncing back and forth between
NE and NW was a pain - running through the house to the back yard and moving the
tie-off rope, then running back to the rig. Often the signal I wanted to catch
had already faded.

That's 6m!

20 SSB
47 CW
 0 FT8/FT4

Best DX: K1BX, FN43, 1647mi
DXCC: W+VE+XE
Worked all quadrants (NW, NE, SE, SW) but not very far in any direction.
Nothing heard farther away than W1.

100W through 200' of DXE-400 to 5el at 23'
Armstrong rotator, typically in the wrong direction.

I'll leave the yagi up for a few more days, but the temporary install must come
down before bad wx predicted for the coming weekend. Until next year!
