Comments:
Thank you to Tim, N6WIN, for hosting our M/S on site at his AZ super station.
Axel KI6RRN made the drive over to join us for this one. Axel has been the guy
to beat on the west coast over the last few years so we were very grateful that
he agreed to join us. Our goal going in to the contest was to set a new M/S
record and it looks like we may have a chance at it. We will be eagerly awaiting
the final results to see if we made it.
Also a big thank you to Icom for allowing us to use a pair of IC7610's as our
main run radios. As usual, they played great and we were very happy with the
performance.
Things actually started a little slower than we anticipated. We knew coming in,
that K0RF would be our main competition, and to be honest we were constantly
monitoring them to see how we were doing. They really kept us on our toes and we
had to push extra hard just to keep up. It looks like we came out ahead in the
end but the great competition was appreciated.
K6AM once again helped us set up a first class M/S station with many of his
seekrit black boxes. His help was invaluable and we couldn't do what we do
without his input. We are happy that he will be joining us in 2 weeks for SSB.
The idea came up to add an additional antenna on 80m. It was decided to install
a couple pulleys at 125' on two of the towers that face Asia/Pac NW. This
allowed for a new to the station dipole which can be easily lowered for
modification to do either a CW or SSB contest. We found it to be a highly
valuable addition to the existing 80m rotatable when run through a stack match.
It allowed for our in-band radio to quickly move through the band as compared to
the narrow bandwidth of the higher rotatable. In addition, Adams KI6SMX, was
able to help with a Mid-Tri stack match troubleshooting work crew immediately
after making the drive from SDG.
73,
Dan N6MJ for team ND7K
