Comments:
Good number of newly licensed stations in the last five years. Pretty cool. Many
from 2020 getting their feet wet in one of the most difficult contests around.
Kudos to those operators and welcome. Hey, if you thought SSB was fun, give CW a
try!
2020 must be the year of the “Q” station. Worked forty-three, but it felt
like many more. The only thing I might add to the SS SSB “Q” handbook is get
your exchange out quickly. QSB and QRM are not your friends for the receiving
station. A long, drawn out exchange almost guarantees a repeat, with the added
risk of run stations mistakenly thinking the frequency is unoccupied while you
transmit, resulting in another layer QRM, delay, and chaos.
Okay. I have spoken (love that line from the “Mandalorian” TV series - just
don’t try it on the XYL :-)
The online scoreboard is fun and provides a level of motivation not otherwise
available by going in blind. It was fun to be neck-and-neck with K5TR for the
first few hours, until it was time to QSY to 40m and he took off like a rocket
on the entire field and never looked back. Congrats to George on a great score!
One of these days I’ll learn how to make a graceful transition from one band
to the next. As 20m faded, it took a while to get a decent run on 40m. Same with
80m. The timing between one band fading and another getting hot still eludes me.
Nice to see 15m open, although for me, it was a mirage. Looked inviting and
signals were strong, but 20m had better rate and coverage.
Missed NT and PE for the sweep. Tuned around on the second radio, but never
found them. Was there more than one station on the air from those locations?
