Comments:
Conditions seemed to be quite good. This was 100% S&P as usual. I put in
just under 24 hours to allow time for some family stuff which also put me in the
"classic overlay" category. I ended up with 65 unique countries in 24
zones which is OK with me from the "black hole" considering the lack
of DXpeditions due to COVID-19 and the sunspot cycle. I didn't waste time in
some of the monster pile-ups on African mults - not a judicious use of my time
with QRP!
I decided to focus on 15 meters on Saturday morning while it was open figuring
it might not be as good on Sunday. But 15 was a star performer both days and
Sunday morning was awesome on both 15 and 20! The 10 meter openings to the
south, especially on Sunday were great! The fast QSB on 10 created the
impression of one-way propagation at times and I got CQed in my face often when
the DX was fairly strong.
It is always interesting to hear the packet spotting hordes descend on a juicy
multiplier just after I've stumbled across him (unassisted). As a QRP station,
my best odds are finding the mults before they are spotted, since it is very
difficult to compete in those cluster (pun intended) pile-ups.
I thought that operating ethics were pretty good for the most part, but there
are always the exceptions, which are frustrating. I thought most stations did a
very good job of IDing frequently - thanks! And I continue to be amazed, year
after year, at the great ears out there - pulling my puny signal through when
the DX isn't really that strong. This is especially true on 40 meters in Japan
and out in the Pacific - I was definitely living off their antennas!
