Comments:

Contests are supposed to be fun. This one wasn't. Instead it was a lot of very
hard work for 10 hours with small reward. My tribander is still not working and
I had planned to use the 88' center fed zepp on 20M. It worked OK this morning,
but sometimes did not return to receive after a transmission. After lunch,
while getting ready for the QSO party, it failed completely. So, I had to use
the 160M inverted L on 10 and 20 and the 40M dipole on 15. 10 and 15 were dead.
Thanks to local KI4MYD, West, who QSYed with me to all the bands he could work
(he has no antenna for 160M). So that explains the two QSOs on the highest
bands. 20M with the 160M antenna loaded quite will with the ATU, but couldn't
hear or be heard much. Think it was as much very bad band conditions as it was
the antenna. Late afternoon, the European stations were very strong and most of
the NA stations had disappeared. 40M was the pleasant surprise. It was quite
good after the first two hours and sometimes it was fun to run there. The QRN
wasn't too bad on 40. But on 80 and 160, the QRN was terrible! Signals were
pretty good on those bands but were often covered by static crashes. We did
have a little rain in the afternoon, but no thunder heard. Somewhere nearby,
there must have been some big storms though. Thanks for all QSOs. 73, John,
K4BAIl
