Another working weekend for me, so just nibbling now and then. Plus Sunday, on
top of being Valentine's, was just too beautiful to pass over -not overly cold,
just below freezing, and brightly sunny- so spent a lot of it outside. Hours of
hiking on a local trail. Strange winter though: the birds are with us. There are
a few ponds along the trail (now mostly frozen over with small open patches)
with a creek running between them (now also covered with ice). In the spring and
autumn there are migratory geese and ducks there and all through the warmer
seasons there are two mating pairs of blue herons. Usually by late November or
early December the birds fly south and come back 3 or 4 months later. This
winter, despite it being February already, the birds are still there and the
geese only do their "training" routines in flying in group formations.
Even saw a heron (standing on a large tree branch, not in the water) several
times, including Sunday. Contest, shmontest...
As usual, it's the emptiness of a giant arctic ice floe out there... when you
are running low power to a vertical.
