Conditions were not good but my contest stats were slightly better than last
year. My WAZ was 16 zones vs. 16 last year and DXCC was 23 vs 22 last year. The
fact that I had more Qs on 40 Meters with my feeble antennas than I had on 15
Meters tells the story!

I enter the 8 major DX contests each year, and this one is the most marginal as
being called a DX contest. In fact, only of 59 (18%) of my Qs were outside of
USA-Canada! But it is still a lot of fun.

I only worked 5 Europeans and only 40(12.5%)of my Qs were off continent.

I have spent almost my entire ham life working DX. When I am finally in a
contest that allows working the USA, I am amazed at how challenging it can be!
There are some with pile ups (especially an unusual prefix that shows up late in
the contest!) and some where my 5 watts just won't make it.

10 Meters: I heard a couple So Americans on Saturday AM, but they could not hear
me. My only Q was a local.

15 Meters: I did work two CTs on 15 Meters on Saturday AM.

20 Meters: This was the workhorse of the contest as it often is when conditions
are not good.

40 and 80 Meters: I did not hear Europe on 40 M. All 80 M Qs were USA-VE with
one XE.

My best Q is hard to find among a lot of ordinary contest Qs but it would be
LX7I on 20 M. He has among the best ears of any DX contest stations around and
seems to always hear me. My biggest disappointment was hearing E2A so strong on
40 M but not being able to work him.

My score was 33% higher than last year, and no. of Qs was 20% higher. I was able
to break 100K points with JR4OZR with 2 minutes to go!

I got 6 hours of sleep (broken into two segments) each night thanks to the 30
hour single op limit. At 81 yrs old I am glad to have that, and I'll probably
still have to do that this weekend in the ARRL CW. ...we'll see!

See you in a few days! 73, Bill W8QZA - W6QU
