Comments:
This was very part time. 16 hrs overstates the time actually spent. Due the last
week’s weather here (low as minus 20),line noise was S7 in the nulls of my
antennas. So I determined before the contest started that I wasn’t going to be
serious about it.
I did work about 12 contacts Friday night, and for the first time in years I
worked at least one contact on all six bands on Friday night. Saturday was
basically home repair and make a few contacts when I passed the radio. Didn’t
go to 20 meters at all on Saturday. I did think 15 and 10 were pretty good on
Saturday morning, worked a couple of EU on 10, think I might have done well
there. By this time I was firmly committed to the repair job, so didn’t
operate seriously at all.
Sunday I got up early and made a couple of 160 contacts. Worked KH6LC after
calling for 20 minutes, then worked KH7M on the first call. Go figure. This was
20 meter day, so after going out for breakfast, I came back to get in a few
solid hours there. Noticed a lot of Arctic flutter from GM north. The only
Russian heard was RA2F, but he was in a frequency battle, and losing, so I
didn’t work him. More emphasis on QSOs than mults, and operated until just
after noon, took off for NASCAR (taxicabs on a road course are always hilarious)
came back for the last hour on 20, 40, and 80.
Kinda fun, but I really wish the line noise (miraculously fixed by Saturday
morning) hadn’t been there so I could have taken it seriously.
