Comments:

What a fun time, although it certainly didn't start that way. I was using my
untested backup radio (Orion) and the patched together 160 wire, now that its
tall support (70ft Pine) is gone. Also gone was my K9AY were any RX antenna.

While I'm not a good (competent?) CW op, going unassisted (no cluster, CW
decoder, or history file) forced me to run far more than I otherwise would have.
That the spread of stations, as Tim (N3QE) wrote, went from the bottom of the
band all the way to the nosebleed section was to my benefit.

Friday was painfully slow (not helped by starting 90 min late). Saturday evening
/night was much better. I had 3 runs >70 Q's per hour, something I've never
experienced before. And includes mangling more calls than otherwise imaginable.
Apologies and thanks to all for being patient.

As others have said, not having an effective receive antenna makes a tremendous
difference. We city dwellers suffer from very high noise levels (S9 at this
QTH), and while many hear me while running HP, I hear less of them. Very few of
the DX I worked were loud. Most were on the edge of readability. There were many
I *almost* got. My numbers were down,

I never heard KL7, KH6, or MS. Of the Canadians, I missed LB, NT, NU, SK and YT.

The results? The best Single Op I've ever done from this QTH. More running (2/3
of my total), and obviously more BIC time. I can only imagine what it will be
like when life comes back to normal and I'll be able to put up new and more
antennas!

73,
Eric W3DQ
