Comments:

I ran into the N7ZZ buzz saw, congrats Stu on a great LP effort and sticking
with it for 19 hours; you must have endured some slow hours. Fortunately, there
were some incredible hours and conditions! It finally happened, massive sporadic
E including ON even on 10 meters! Normally, this contest is very difficult to
score well from here as ON is skipping over on 20M, let alone 10M! There could
have been a bit more high band activity, but the same can be said below 40M as
well. This was by far the best Canada Day condx I have experienced probably
never to be repeated, 19 mults on 15, 17 on 10! I moved some of the rarer ones
around to different bands, but had very poor luck on 40 CW (quit before sunset
on the west coast). I was not planning on many hours Saturday until the
incredible openings began.

Saturday evening skip was quite long on 20, but ON was loud on 40 the first 2
hours and I had a good SSB run of mostly ON/QC stations. I was probably a bit
late to the high band party helping the XYL start her day. I had been running
some ON and eastern Canada stations on 20 SSB when someone who called mentioned
10 was open. My very first 10M QSO was VE3TM at 1425Z. This was followed by
RAC's from VY2 and VE9. Then it was a mad dash to pile up as many mults and
QSO's on 10 and 15 both modes. I had a good run on 15 CW at 1446Z including many
ON and the same on 15 SSB at 15Z with VY2 being my first Q. At 1518Z VO1OK moved
up to 10 SSB for a mult and even on 10 I had a good SSB run for about 1/2 hour.
Even on 10 CW, I was running Canadians. Back to 15 SSB at 1544Z there were still
plenty to find and run. Around 16Z 15 and 10 opened a bit to the west with most
signals much weaker than Eastern Canada. Finally at 1623Z most of the available
stations on 15 and 10 were in the log, so I bulked up 20 on both modes a bit
with of course plenty of ON stations. 10 was still open to ON at 17Z, but not as
well. At 1658Z on 10 CW I had 3 mults in a row call from BC, AB, and MB. This
was followed by a run of 4 more BC stations, all very Q5! Still at 18Z 10 was
open to ON; M0YRX called in as well. VE4ACE called on 20 SSB at 1844Z and
followed me up to 15 and 10 SSB for 2 new mults. He was really surprised to find
the bands open. VE5DLC moved from 15 SSB to 10 SSB. The Es was dying out at
1915Z and was gone after a short break at 20Z; it was back to no ON on 20 as
usual and activity really dropped. I kept at it most of the time until the end
adding a few mults on 80 thru 20M. 40M SSB came alive around 22Z after hearing
almost no one at 21Z.

The incredible conditions turned what would have been a very slow Thursday into
a lot of fun! The trajectory of VE activity is in general heading down for the
RAC tests; let's hope it improves with increased solar flux. I don't think I
will ever again work so many total Q's with ON and QC, it was probably a once in
a lifetime experience. I did heavily concentrate on Canadian Q's; my overall
pts/QSO were 8.0 and above that on 20 SSB, 15 and 10 both modes. Pts/Q on 15 SSB
were 10.6!

Many thanks for the calls/Q's and 73, Jeff
