Comments:
Score includes 600 bonus points for sweep of WOLFPACK.
I really was not planning to operate seriously after full effort in SCQP
Saturday. Our WX was rainy and cold, not much else was happening, and I felt
more energetic than I expected. There were enough mobiles, but breaking the 40M
pile ups was very difficult at times. Stations from about Raleigh northward were
at the edge of my skip zone or in it for most of the day, so some mobiles were
weak or just louder farther away which made breaking some huge pile ups
difficult. Fortunately, for just over an hour starting around 1630Z there were
loud signals from all over NC allowing many Wake county ops to be logged. I
heard nothing from Durham next door where my daughter lives. The activity from
Onslow County on the coast east of Wilmington was off the charts! I guess a lot
of hams love the beach and now live there. I could have done better on mults
from the mobiles, but running on SSB was much less painful and I picked up some
rare counties in the runs. My best hour was 49 Q's at 16Z, worked 45 first hour.
The next best was 37 Q's at 23Z when 75/80M were first wide open.
Thanks to all of the mobiles and sorry to hear of W4AN's mishap with the vehicle
window which cut down on their operating. There may have been a roving mobile on
SSB, but I don't think I worked any more than once. CW mobile Q totals were:
W4TMO-15, K8MR-6, W4AN-7, K3TD-3, AA4TI-3. Thanks to you all! I think the WX was
very nice in most of the state.
Last year under really poor 40M condx with few mobiles my Q total sunk to an all
time low of 181; this year was 298. I spent enough time trying to break pile ups
that it reduced the score for sure. Thanks for the calls and Q's!
73, Jeff
