Comments:
I hadn't planned operating as much as I did, but it seemed like the thing to do
once I got started. Friday conditions were dreadful, with hardly any EU stations
to be found on 40 meters. 80 wasn't a lot better, but I managed to put a few in
the log. 20 was better on Saturday. Heard very few signals on 15 either day. 40
and 80 were a good bit better Saturday night. 20 was pretty good Sunday and 40
was back very nicely Sunday afternoon and evening.
The beverages turned out not to be as useful as usual, especially on 80. The
directional characteristics just didn't seem to be there. Maybe all the signals
were coming in at high angles? Overall, I'm pleased with the results, especially
considering the 20 and 15 meter antennas are just dipoles about 30 feet high.
Can't wait until next year, when I'll have a real antenna for 40 through 10.
Most operators were pretty good, although as always there were a few annoying
types that wouldn't quit sending their calls, even when the DX came back to a
call that didn't resemble theirs in any way. Most signals were pretty clean,
with a few wide clicky exceptions. There was one spectacularly rotten signal out
of Cuba that brought back memories of the "good old" days of the
'60s.
Hope everyone had fun and worked some good stuff.

Randy, W8FN
