Comments:
Well another interesting all remote multi-multi run of the CQWW Rtty contest!
Murphy.. bad prop.. good prop.. it was everywhere! we had a rough start, a few
hours into the contest the flex smartlink system, part of our remote multi-op
solution went down with a problem, so we had to come up with some out of box
solutions to stay qrv, they held us back a bit, particularly with ergonomics and
control.. but we managed to stay afloat.. and flex had things fixed after about
12-14 hours (the next am) thanks to the engineers for working this through on a
weekend.
here is how it went down band for band
10M N6WM(handled so2r with 15m) couple weak openings gave us a few KH6, the
locals, and on sunday a zone with a texas qso. better than nothin.
15M. N6WM 15m Friday night was great to JA, Saturday was a slog with very
little eu propagation, but still ok. Sunday was a spectacular, shall we call it
the first real 15m EU opening from W6. Several hours of european callers and
all the juicy mults to go along.. sunday was the best time ive had on 15 in
quite a while.
20M K6AW. Steve unexpectedly had to hold down 20m for the entire contest and
he did his usual iron man work there. his thoughts.. A fun time. Enjoyed all
the qsos. The N6RO team is maturing nicely.
40M WD6T/WX5S Dave and Matt split the 40m duties, Dave handling the early shift
and Matt working the early am asia pac duty. Daves notes: First half of each
night (WD6T) - Did extensive SO2V to grab multipliers and prioritize 3-point
contacts. 40m EU opening was pretty good the first night and fantastic the
second night, lasting well beyond their sunrise by nearly two hours after a good
gray line enhancement. Seemed like I was working more Europeans than US stations
(combination of running and S&P).which is usual from W. Coast on 40. Not
much SA though. Best hours in terms of QSO volume were 02z on the first night
and 01z on the second night. Very happy with the multiplier count we were able
to achieve on 40m.
80M NT6V W6DMW The 80M 4sq was in good hands the first part each night with
Michael NT6V for early shift, and Dave W6DMW handling late, early am asia pac.
Michael really focused on working on EU multipliers, and his work payed off.
his command of our 80m four square was truly professional. Dave W6DMW,
struggled with the Flex issues friday night but had his normal setup saturday
night. He did great with difficult 80m morning am conditions..
Of course Ken N6RO was in the background powering amps, solving problems and we
and coaching the team on low bands.
The entire team is grateful to Ken N6RO for allowing us to operate this great
station, full of history and a proving ground for current and future great
contest talent.
overall we had a great time, congratulations to all the operators out there,
Please send me photos and information about your efforts, and maybe we will
write them up in CQ Magazine!
For the entire N6WM CQWW RTTY Team
73 and seeya next time!
